FirstWave Cloud Technology (ASX: FCT) has filed a provisional patent application for an artificial intelligence-driven network monitoring and fault diagnosis system. The application was filed with IP Australia on 3 September 2026. The company stated that the invention is designed to detect network faults and automatically investigate their root causes.
The technology utilizes a multi-agent AI architecture orchestrated by large language models. According to the company, this system reasons over network context and tests competing explanations to provide an explainable diagnosis. This approach aims to move beyond relying on a single model response. The system is built into the company’s NMIS suite, allowing it to work with device history and telemetry that existing FirstWave software already collects.
FirstWave Cloud Technology said the invention emerged from research involving the University of the Sunshine Coast and CSIRO. The research collaboration was jointly funded by the three parties under CSIRO’s Regional University Industry Collaboration program. The company is the sole owner and sole applicant for the patent.
The company is preparing the technology for commercial launch. It intends to release the capability as either new features for existing products or a stand-alone module. FirstWave said it is targeting the network monitoring business, which it stated generated A$6.9 million in revenue in the 2026 financial year. The company noted that key clients, including John Deere and Telmex, have requested the capability. The use of data already held within its installed software gives the technology a pathway into existing customer environments without requiring a separate data collection platform.
FirstWave is particularly targeting organizations that keep network management systems on premise. The company cited market research estimating that such deployments represented about 53% of the network management market in 2025. The company said the system allows engineers to interact with the AI through a conversational interface. Engineers can direct further investigation, request alternative solutions, and approve a final fix. Each approved response is captured as operational knowledge for future incidents.
FirstWave Cloud Technology chief executive officer Danny Maher said network monitoring is the company’s largest and fastest-growing revenue line. He stated that the patent is a deliberate decision to put AI at the center of that business. Vice-president of products Sharon Honeybell called the collaboration a great example of research translating into a real, tangible outcome for industry.
The company cited research valuing the global network management systems market at US$12.3 billion in 2025. The research forecast the market to reach US$27.1 billion by 2033. The self-healing networks segment was forecast to grow from US$960 million in 2024 to US$5 billion by 2030.
