Cookie Policy

What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow a site to recognize your browser on return visits, remember choices you’ve made, and, depending on the type, help measure traffic or support advertising. Similar technologies, such as local storage and pixel tags, are used for the same purposes and are covered by this policy alongside cookies.
Global Securities News (“GSN,” “we,” “us”) uses cookies to run the site properly, understand how it’s used, and support the advertising that keeps our reporting free to read. This policy explains what we use and why. For information on how any data collected through cookies is otherwise handled, see our Privacy Policy.
The Three Categories of Cookies We Use
We group cookies into three categories:
- Strictly necessary: required for the site to function. These cannot be switched off and do not require consent.
- Analytics: help us understand aggregate traffic patterns and improve the site. Set only with your consent.
- Advertising / personalization: used by our advertising partners to serve and measure ads. Set only with your consent.
| Category | Example purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Remembers (in your browser’s local storage) that you accepted or rejected cookies, so the banner doesn’t reappear on every page | Until you clear your browser’s site data |
| Strictly necessary | Remembers your selected display language or country edition | Up to 12 months |
| Analytics | Counts visits and page views in aggregate to help us understand readership trends | Up to 24 months |
| Analytics | Distinguishes unique visitors from repeat visitors for traffic reporting | Up to 24 months |
| Advertising / personalization | Used by Google AdSense to select, serve, and frequency-cap display ads (leaderboard, sidebar, in-article) | Varies by provider, typically up to 13 months |
| Advertising / personalization | Used by content-recommendation widgets (Outbrain/Taboola-style “you may also like” / “around the web” placements) to personalize recommended links | Varies by provider, typically up to 13 months |
Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from consent under most cookie laws because the site cannot function properly without them. Analytics and advertising/personalization cookies are not exempt, which is why we ask for your consent before setting them in the regions where consent is legally required, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. In other regions these cookies may be set by default, and you can withdraw or change your choice at any time using the link in the footer.
Our Consent Banner
Global Securities News uses a Google-certified Consent Management Platform (CMP), integrated with IAB Europe’s Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF), to obtain your consent before setting non-essential cookies or serving personalized advertising, where required by law.
If you are visiting from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, Google’s consent message appears on your first visit and offers three choices:
- Consent: allows non-essential cookies, including analytics and advertising/personalization cookies, and personalized advertising.
- Do not consent: declines non-essential cookies and personalized advertising; only strictly necessary cookies are set.
- Manage options: lets you review and customize your choices in more detail, including per-purpose and per-vendor controls, before deciding.
The exact wording of the consent message and its buttons is configured, and may be updated from time to time, in our AdSense account’s “Privacy & messaging” settings.
Where consent is legally required, non-essential cookies are not set until consent is given, consistent with the “exempt from consent” treatment of strictly necessary cookies described above. Where it is not required, they may be set by default and you can change that choice at any time. If you have not yet made a choice, or if you decline, non-essential cookies remain off. You can still read every article on the site regardless of which option you choose.
As part of its “manage options” detail view, the CMP also identifies to you the ad technology providers and vendors used on the site, consistent with Google’s EU User Consent Policy.
Visitors in US states with applicable privacy laws do not see this EEA/UK/Switzerland consent message. Instead, they are offered a separate “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” mechanism, see “Where the Ad Networks Fall” and “Changing Your Choice Later” below.
Where the Ad Networks Fall
The two third-party ad technologies used on GSN both fall under the advertising/personalization category:
- Google AdSense: which serves our display advertising (leaderboard, sidebar, and in-article placements).
- Outbrain/Taboola-style content-recommendation widgets: which power the “you may also like” and “around the web” links shown at the end of articles.
If you decline consent (or have not yet made a choice), these networks’ cookies are not set, though you may still see non-personalized advertising or recommendation widgets that rely on contextual signals rather than cookies, depending on the provider’s own technology.
Changing Your Choice Later
You can change your cookie preferences at any time:
- If you’re in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, use the “Manage Consent” link in the footer of any page. It reopens Google’s consent message at any time so you can review or change your choice, withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it.
- If you’re in a US state with applicable privacy laws, use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in the footer of any page. It lets you opt out of the sale or sharing of personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Clear this site’s data (cookies and site/local storage) in your browser settings. Doing so removes the record of your original choice, so the consent banner will appear again the next time you visit.
- Adjust your browser’s cookie controls. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies from specific sites, or block third-party cookies generally, through their privacy or settings menu. Consult your browser’s help documentation for exact steps, as these vary by browser and device.
- Use your browser’s Global Privacy Control (GPC) or similar signals. Where required by law (for example, for California residents), we treat a GPC signal as a valid request to opt out of the “sharing” of personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Because blocking all cookies (including strictly necessary ones) may affect basic site functionality, such as remembering your language preference, we recommend declining non-essential cookies through the consent options described above rather than disabling cookies entirely at the browser level, unless you prefer stricter control.
